Explore Siem Reap in 72 hours – Part 1

People who travel to Cambodia often flock to Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. But while this majestic temple is grand and historical enough to be the highlight of anyone’s trip, there’s more to Cambodia’s famous temple town than just this popular landmark.

Embark on a journey with us as we show you more sites to see and more experiences to explore in Siem Reap.

Day 1

Welcoming guests at The Aviary Hotel

Your adventure starts the moment you arrive at Siem Reap International Airport, where our team will welcome and escort you to the hotel. Check-in and freshen up in your guest room, which is designed with unique Cambodian elements in mind.

Your first afternoon would be well spent exploring the temples, so we recommend buying a three-day temple pass worth $62. This pass allows you to visit the temples for three days within a one-week window.

Once you have your ticket, you’re set to visit the massive Angkor Archeological Park for an afternoon of temple exploration. We recommend you visit Preah Khan, Neak Pean, and Ta Som, all three of which are part of the grand circuit tour, before heading to Pre Rup temple for an amazing view of the sunset.

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, we also recommend joining the Cambodia Jeep Tour. On this tour, you can explore temples while riding vintage jeeps—the same ones used during the Cambodian-Vietnamese war.

After sunset, you can head back to the hotel and enjoy a drink at The Glide Bar, the hotel’s rooftop bar. Reminisce about your first day in Angkor while enjoying Barang’s favorite cocktails. We’re sure you’ll fall in love with the ambiance and would want to stay for dinner too, before calling it a day to get a good night’s rest and prepare for the next day’s adventures.

Day 2

Bayon Temple Angkor WAt
Bayon Temple

Your 2nd day starts with a tuk tuk ride to Angkor Wat where you can enjoy the sunrise. Most guests mark this as one of the highlights of their trip, so don’t forget to bring along your camera.

After sunrise, stretch your legs, explore the mesmerizing UNESCO-listed temple, and re-energize with a picnic-like breakfast on-the-go prepared by the hotel. Then, continue your temple exploration with the famed Bayon Temple, also known as the temple with the smiling faces, and Ta Prohm Temple, which you might recognize from the TombRaider movie.

Hoping to see more than just temples? The Angkor Botanical Garden would be an amazing addition to your itinerary. Then, head back to the hotel for some afternoon relaxation, which you absolutely deserve after your early adventure.

Enjoy a poolside lunch and recharge for the remainder of the day. Go out for an early dinner and enjoy our highly-recommended local restaurants featuring traditional Khmer and fusion cuisine, such as Malis, Chanrey Tree and Viroth’s. For more health-conscious visitors, there are a number of high-quality, healthy food at the Aviary.

After dinner, head over to the Phare Circus, Siem Reap’s most unique, authentic, top-rated evening entertainment. The young circus artists will blow you away with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm, and talent, giving you a night to remember.

You can also enjoy other experiences unique to the Siem Reap area, like watching the Apsara Dance Show. Enjoy a foodie tour while enjoying the wind on your face by signing up for a Vespa Adventure.
