Angkor Small Tour Circuit

By this point, the Angkor region is so well traveled that experts have generously laid out tour circuits for those who want to delve into the beauty and history of the area. From temple ruins to farming landscapes, the Angkor small tour circuit leads you through every stop on the must-hit attractions of Angkor.

The small tour of Angkor is one of our most popular excursions among all attractions in Siem Reap. This circuit leads you through the top sites of the region. This includes a number of destinations, not the least of which is Angkor Wat itself. Tourists also get to revel in spots such as Bayon, Chau Say Tevoda and Ta Prohm.

There are six primary temples to visit on the circuit, but based on the route, you can easily add a number of other destinations to the list. The alluring part of it all is that you can make it a half-day outing or stick to your own pace. Whether you want to do it all in a single afternoon or spend two days exploring ruins on your own is your choice. The Angkor Grand Tour Circuit is a highly recommended add-on to this tour.

Angkor Wat

The most noteworthy stop on the tour is also the first. Angkor Wat is a massive temple with a rich history. Due to its unusual west-facing position, many believe it was created as a funerary temple for a royal of yore named King Suryavarman II. With five towers to explore, you could easily spend a whole morning here. Considering the splendid vista of the sunrise at this destination, you may just want to go early to this must see attraction in Siem Reap. Note that Angkor Wat is one of the few temples that actually allow visitors at sunrise.

Bayon

Next up on the route is Bayon, a temple nestled within Angkor Thom. Another ancient temple, this is one you’ll want to get close to as its complexities lie within the minutiae. Faces carved into stone make for a site worth reveling in, giving a taste of history with every glance.

Thommanon

A small temple, Thommanon won’t take long to see, making it an easy addition to your temple excursions. It’s one half of a pair of Hindu temples, the other being Chau Say Tevoda (which is located directly across the road). Yes, that means you can knock two historical temples off your list in one fell swoop! Khmer artwork abounds at both of these sites, although both were crafted in unique ways, making them each a site all their own.

Ta Keo

If you wish to see a temple that was never completed, Ta Keo is it. A 72-foot staircase leads you through the unfinished array of rocks and restoration, where you can attempt to envision the lives of those who sought to build it way back when. Just because this one isn’t complete doesn’t make it any less awe-inspiring, so if temples are your thing, it’s a wise destination.

Ta Prohm

This is the last official stop on the Angkor small circuit, but definitely not the least. In the modern era, this site gained a lot of recognition due to its place on the Tomb Raider set, but that’s far from all it has to offer. Much of the temple structure has been absorbed by wild tree roots, which unapologetically grasp anything in its path. All the while, you can walk through hallways and alleyways in a single route through the temple, making note of every astonishing feature along the way.
