Havana Cigars at The Glide Bar
Only a few things in the world are known to be the best of its kind. One of them is a Havana Cigar. Like Demi Moore once said: “There’s something about smoking a cigar that feels like a celebration. It’s like a fine wine. There’s a quality, a workmanship, a passion that goes into the smoking of a fine cigar.” You can now celebrate your holiday with a post-dinner cigar at our rooftop venue The Glide Bar. We partnered up with Pacific Cigar and are now offering Cuba’s six major and most renowned cigar brands for you to enjoy.
The Pacific Cigar Company is the exclusive distributor for the Habanos Cigars Brands for Asia Pacific Region. In addition to cigars, they have also developed their very own cigar accessories, such as humidors, cigar cutters, and leather cases. Most importantly, they are not just selling cigars, but they also take pride in providing extensive training sessions to the teams who are selling the cigars.
At The Aviary Hotel, the food & beverage team has successfully completed the training and are now confidently selling seven different cigars at The Glide Bar. Among the brands are Cohiba, H. Upmann, Romeo y Julieta, Partagas, Montecristo, and Hoyo de Monterrey. “A cigar pairs perfectly with a whiskey or other digestive after dinner,” said Khon Sokhamphou, our F&B Manager. “Between a cigar and a cigarette, a cigar is definitely the better choice. Firstly, because a cigar is made of leaves and therefore features a wide variety of flavors. Secondly, cigars have a much classier look and feel, and they’re smoked in popular movies. They not only taste good, smoking a cigar also looks nice.”
Mr. Khamphou and his team are very excited about the arrival of the cigars, especially after the training. Most of the team members never heard of cigars before and certainly nobody ever smoked one. During the training session, they learned how cigars are made, how to cut cigars and how to service cigars. Lighting a cigar, for example, is not an easy task. It’s very important to not touch the flame and to rotate the cigar so that all parts of its tip are equally heated. Another important lesson learned is that guests do not have to finish the cigar in one go. When they’re done smoking, the end can be cut off and the cigar can be saved in the tube for later. Cutting is not as easy as it sounds too, it’s important to cut in one click so that the break is clean and not frayed.
As a great wine is defined by its vineyard, a Cuban cigar is defined by the land where the tobacco is grown. The locations for growing Habanos tobacco are strictly limited to certain regions of Cuba and within those regions, only a small number of farms are selected for the exceptional quality of their soil and microclimate, and their skills in growing tobacco. Pacific Cigars only works with the best quality cigars, straight from Cuba, for you to enjoy at The Glide Bar.
Are you a cigar smoker or do you want to give it try? Mr. Khamphou and his team are looking forward to welcoming you and to telling you about our six top-brand Havana cigars at The Glide Bar.
