Being a guest of The Aviary Hotel means a lot of things. For one, it means joining a welcoming environment, one where there’s a staff working diligently to meet all your needs. So too does it mean relishing in a home away from home, however far from Siem Reap you may hail from. Here’s the story of BouBou, the cat of The Aviary Hotel, whom we welcomed as a resident to our urban hotel.

We do our best to show how much we care, whether it be for the travelers that drift in and out of our establishment, or the beings that call it home. For BouBou—a cat with a hotel for a territory—our love really knows no bounds.

Who Is BouBou?

If you’re an animal lover, it should come as no surprise that BouBou is far more than just a cat who spends his days on our property. He’s a true part of The Aviary Hotel, but who is he, and how did he wind up here?

BouBou was adopted from the local pagoda, a place called Wat Athvea. He got his name by popular demand, when our empathetic and loving staff held a naming competition in his honor. The name BouBou won by a landslide, and we think it fits just perfectly.

While a part of our family, there’s also a bit of superstition that comes along with BouBou. In fact, we have reason to believe he’s a lucky charm for us, and we make sure to treat him as such.

It’s a Cat’s Life at The Aviary Hotel

So what’s it mean to be a hotel-dwelling kitty cat? It may be different elsewhere, but BouBou has got quite the life at The Aviary Hotel.

He spends his days as a cat should, roaming the public areas of the property at will. One of BouBou’s favorite pastimes is going up to his favorite staff members and the hotel’s many friendly guests to greet them and show his affection. With all the social interaction amidst a beautiful environment, this cat has no idea what it means to be bored.

We already mentioned that BouBou is our family in every way. With the way our staff takes care of him each and every day, he treats us as a part of his pack, too. He’s well fed, gets to play with a plethora of toys and—get this—even has his own comfy bed to wind down in at day’s end!

One Lucky Cambodian Cat

BouBou may be The Aviary Hotel’s lucky cat, bringing good fortune to our business and all the people who frequent it. However, we think he has a pretty lucky life of his own, too.

The city of Siem Reap is teeming with stray cats, many of whom struggle to find food, shelter and affection day in and day out. Thanks to the community of temples and the love-forward monks who call them home, many litters get a safe place to stay until the kittens are adopted.

BouBou, now the cat of The Aviary Hotel, just so happened to be one of those pagoda cats, and we are ever-so-grateful to have found him. While he may have once been wrongfully deemed an unwanted creature, those days are long behind him. Today, he’s surrounded by people who appreciate his presence and understand the joy he brings into the world.
