At The Aviary Hotel, we believe in the power of music. It has the capacity to heal us in times of grief, ignite us in times of excitement and propel us forth with each passing day. Whatever the purpose, we go all out with our music—and we couldn’t do it without the help of DJ Cecile. Here’s some insight on who she is, what she does and how she created our one-of-a-kind music playlists at The Aviary Hotel  that bring positivity and comfort to every corner.

Who Is DJ Cecile?

DJ Cecile is a musician and sound designer who seeks to forge experiences through music. She’s the creator of all our new music playlists at The Aviary Hotel, and singlehandedly curated multiple collections of tunes that she believes best reflect our ambience. Whether our guests are fuelling up for the day in Plumage Restaurant, lounging around in the lobby or strutting their stuff through the halls, there’s a playlist to highlight the environment in its best light.

Originally from France, DJ Cecile is a long time fan of classical music, she incorporates this , along with her 10 years of experience in the free party scene, into her soundscapes today. She moved to Siem Reap about five years ago and has set down her roots in our Cambodian city.

Lately, the hospitality realm has intrigued DJ Cecile. She loves hotels with cool architecture and design, and she just so happens to view The Aviary Hotel as part of that. The earthy and natural design of our space inspired DJ Cecile to create musical collections that become part of the building and the people. The sound becomes the glue that ties everything together. The combination of all these aspects has enabled us to enhance our unique and extraordinary vibe to mirror our vibes.

According to sound designer DJ Cecile, music is often as crucial to a patron’s experience of a space as the art hanging on the walls or the hospitality of the staff. However, this element of the experience is often overlooked. It’s something that with DJ Cecile’s help, we sought to change. And we did!

What Kind of Music are we Talkin’?

In the lobby – DJ Cecile thoughtfully recognized that on arrival guests are less confident than they may normally be. After all, they’re in a new “home” with an unfamiliar atmosphere where they have to sleep and eat for the next few days. She crafted this playlist to offer comfort and calm to guests. From the moment they arrive and throughout their stay, sweet melodies give guests a feeling of comfort and confidence in the cozy and bright lobby.

In The Flock Cafe – This space can be compared to a deli where people come for lunch or work. As such, DJ Cecile knew that the music had to be colorful. She fine-tuned her songs specifically to support the existing ambience. Some of the music is bolder than others, but all blend perfectly with the background (no disco here). When you’re having a chat or meeting, you shouldn’t be bothered by the music. When you’re alone, you’ll notice it and feel those positive vibes.

In Plumage Restaurant – This is the get-up-and-go playlist. Breakfast is a private moment, and this collection honors that. It’s balanced with the atmosphere of just waking up and getting ready for the day. Visit Plumage and you’ll hear music tailored to getting you started on your day, while embracing the wonderful variety of sound and voices from around the world.

Aside from these three unique playlists, DJ Cecile has a few more collections in the works for us at The Aviary Hotel. As we await the opening of the brand-new Fumizen restaurant, we know the music is in very safe hands. We anticipate with excitement and trust, the sounds DJ Cecile will bring to this new space. Soon, The Glide Bar will also have its very own curation.

In the meantime, we’re very happy collectively bobbing our heads to our new favorite tunes, all thanks to DJ Cecile.
