Employee Spotlight: Makara Tith, Hotel Manager

It’s also because of the people who make sure that every single guest gets the level of comfort they’re looking for.

Meet Makara Tith, one of the rockstars who makes every visit to The Aviary a memorable one.

Setting the Right Culture

Makara started working at The Aviary in October 2015. She was a Sales Manager who loved working with the staff members, especially when it comes to making every guest experience awesome.

Now that she’s been promoted as the Hotel Manager, she is driven by her continuous desire to make not only the guests happy, but the staff members as well. It sets the right culture that at the end of the day, they provide excellence because they work together as a team.

Her role involves overseeing the entire hotel operations, making sure that everything goes as seamlessly as possible. She is also the main point of contact for guests, giving her the direct opportunity to provide the right solutions to each unique concern.

Rising Above the Pandemic

When asked about how they coped during the pandemic, Makara admits that it wasn’t an easy period for everyone. However, there was still a silver lining to the entire ordeal. “We’re proud that we didn’t have to let go of any of our staff,” she says, which is a huge feat that not every business in the area was able to accomplish.

Now that there are almost no positive COVID cases in the region and most restrictions have been lifted, things have started to go back to normal. Especially now that Cambodia is once again open to international travelers, business is finally starting to pick up.

This also means that guests can explore Siem Reap more freely now. And because the hotel is located right in the heart of the city, it’s the perfect place to stay for those who want to make the most out of their trip.

An Oasis of Her Own

After a long and busy day of keeping guests happy, Makara also puts in an effort to make sure she has a relaxing oasis to go home to herself. After all, she does spend a lot of her time at work, where comfort and relaxation are top priorities.

She’s a huge fan of gardening, so her goal is to turn her home into a greenhouse where she can be surrounded by beautiful plants thriving under her care.

We asked her what keeps her motivated to be of service to the people around her, and she gave one great snippet of wisdom:

“being happy is to be satisfied with what you have”.
