Explore Knapor Community in Chansor Village

With this package you’re taken on a series of adventures to Siem Reap’s countryside to learn about its local communities and history. Partake in sustainable tourism with Buffalo Tours by spending a full day with the rural Knapor Community in the Chansor Village and witness first hand their way of life from the local crafts they sell at the market to school improvement projects.

Travel to the banks of Tonle Sap Lake

Moving from land to water, continue your discovery of Siem Reap’s countryside by traveling to the banks of Cambodia’s picturesque Tonlé Sap Lake, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, to meet either the Kompong Phluk or Chong Kneas communities living on the water. Made up from ethnic Vietnamese, Khmer, and Cham, who were stripped of their Cambodian identity under the Khmer Rouge regime, they have since settled and have made fishing their bread and butter. Living in stilt houses that sit at least 6 metres above water, explore the communities’ ecosystem with its connecting platforms where villagers grow their own vegetables, run markets, and travel by boat between houses. Glide on the lake in a wooden canoe beneath the lush green canopies surrounded by the sounds of birds and other wildlife and get a glimpse of how living on the water has changed the lives of these locals.

Travel by ox-cart

By experiencing its lesser-known heritage sites and cultural activities, you will have the chance to explore spots beyond the popular temples of Angkor Wat. Travel by ox-cart from the Knapor Community to a hidden jungle temple taken over by nature but not forgotten by its people. Explore the ancient Khmer ruins away from the crowds of Angkor Wat and learn about the history of the Khmer civilization. You are also invited to participate in a traditional Khmer monk blessing in a local Buddhist temple and observe the sacred rituals that are still practiced today.

Indulge in Khmer Cuisine

You can also get a taste of local, Khmer-style cuisine with The Aviary Escape Package. Share a Khmer-style meal created from local produce and spiced to delight the senses with the Knapor Community and enjoy local dishes for lunch. Upon returning to the hotel, overlook the lively city streets from The Aviary Hotel Cambodia ’s rooftop at The Glide Bar and enjoy a 4-course set dinner for two and two complimentary cocktails.
