Eco-friendly Stay at The Aviary Hotel

Back at the 2023, the Earth Day celebration highlights the call to “Invest in Our Planet.” The campaign urges businesses, governments, and civil society to invest in the green economy, as it is the only path to a healthy, prosperous, and equitable future.

For the past years, The Aviary Hotel has been passionate about providing the most luxurious and relaxing hotel stay – without harming the planet – as we continue our efforts to keep our hotel eco-friendly.

Our Contribution to Helping the Planet Breathe

From investing in energy-generating gym equipment, using filters to make tap water drinkable, recycling soap bars, and using farm-to-table ingredients for our buffet, The Aviary Hotel continues to find ways to reduce waste and carbon footprint.

Installing Filters for Fresh and Safe Drinking Water

With the help of Water for Cambodia, The Aviary Hotel has installed water filters throughout the hotel’s premises, making it safe and accessible for our guests and staff to drink water whenever they wish. Through this, we successfully cut the use of single-use plastic bottles, as our guests won’t have to buy their drinking water outside the hotel.

On top of that, choosing Water for Cambodia also means supporting its multiple projects designed to help uplift poverty-stricken communities in Cambodia.

Investing in Energy-generating Gym Equipment

Every good thing starts with a sincere plan. With our hopes of reducing our carbon footprint,  we decided to bring renewable energy to the Aviary Hotel through our extraordinary gym equipment.

From the moment our guests hop on the bicycle or the treadmill, their energy when working out generates electricity to run a portion of our hotel. Whether our guests like to walk or sprint, the treadmill can capture a maximum of 200 watts of electricity per hour of energy.

On the other hand, through the bicycle, the physiological steam is transformed into usable electricity.

Maintaining a Plastic-free Hotel

Among the many threats our planet faces, plastic wastes remain one of the major problems. That’s why at The Aviary Hotel, we try to be more creative when it comes to packaging. We don’t allow plastic boxes, plastic straws, or cups. For instance, we only use natural strings for our takeaways.

Giving New Life to Leftover Soaps

In partnership with Eco Soap Bank Cambodia  – a Cambodia-based company that loves to produce products that promote simple, healthy, and natural living – we found a brilliant way to recycle barely used soap bars we collect from the guest rooms.

The collected soap bars are sent to Eco Soap Bank Cambodia – where the magic happens. The used soaps undergo sanitation in their workshop and are recycled into liquid soaps. Our 50 team members are (re)using these recycled liquid soaps in the hotel’s back-of-house area.

Choosing Our Trusted Local Partners

By supporting our local partners, we are hitting two birds with one stone: helping the environment and empowering the local communities.

Farm-to-table Sunny Side Ups

At The Aviary Hotel, our guests enjoy high-quality eggs from our Eggcellent local partner.  With a series of trials on what feed works best with the chickens, eggcellent founder David Keller, with his 15 employees and his free-range chickens are now supplying the finest eggs to their customers.

From Scrap to Craft

Rugs may not be the main attraction in our hotel’s interior, but they complete the overall feel. Like the other things we use in our hotel, our gray and brown carpets are made with high-quality microfibre materials that are about to go to waste.

Made possible by the brain and the hands behind this upcycling business: SCRAP Siem Reap’s Dutch designer Godie van de Paal and her Cambodian artisans.

Flavorful Bread Treats from The Muffin Man

With his inspiring story, Dieng Dorm, also known as The Muffin Man, has been baking soft and flavorful muffins since 2019. Coming from a simple family, with only his dreams, his perseverance, and the support of the people who believed in him, he went from supplying baked treats to cafes in Siem Reap to owning his cafe in 2020.

You can finally have a bite of The Muffin Man’s comforting muffins at our Flock Cafe

Mindful and Sustainable Transactions

Getting our supplies from our local partners helps decrease the pollution from transportation. Shortening the journey also helps reduce packaging waste. And the closer you are to your supplier, the better chance you’ll get the freshest produce and high-quality products.

All that while helping the local businesses thrive so they can empower their employees and uplift their livelihood, which is an important step in easing the burden of poverty.

When you choose to stay at The Aviary Hotel, you also help us support our goal of keeping an eco-friendly business that cares for the planet and its people.
